Apology by Plato is a philosophical dialogue that presents Socrates’ defense speech at his trial in Athens. Socrates responds to charges of corrupting the youth and failing to honor the city’s gods. Rather than begging for mercy, he explains his commitment to questioning, truth, and moral integrity. The work shows Socrates as a thinker who values the examined life above reputation, safety, or political approval. It also explores the conflict between individual conscience and public judgment. Apology became one of the most famous portraits of philosophical courage.
